In Colossians 3:17–4:1, Paul shows that Jesus is not only Lord of creation and the church, but also Lord of the home. Every role—wives, husbands, children, fathers, servants, and masters—is to be carried out in submission to Christ and for His glory. Wives are called to submit, husbands to love, children to obey, and fathers to encourage.
This text also addresses slaves in a way that ultimately ought to turn slavery on its head. Many find it odd that the Bible has rules for slaves. If we consider the context, we will see that Paul's statements are extremely radical. Pastor Brian shows this in this sermon.
Ultimately, faithful Christian living in every role flows from the command: whatever we do, we do it in the name of the Lord Jesus.
